LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop star Michael Jackson has been rushed to a Los Angeles-area hospital by fire department paramedics who found him not breathing when they arrived at the singer's home, the Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday.

The newspaper said paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene before taking him to the UCLA Medical Center hospital.

No further details were immediately available, and spokespersons for Jackson could not be reached for comment.

Jackson, 50, is due to start a series of comeback concerts in London on July 13 running until March 2010. The singer, whose hits include "Thriller" and "Billy Jean," has been rehearsing in the Los Angeles area for the past two months.

The shows for the 50 London concerts sold out within hours of going on sale in March.

Jackson, who started out as a child star in the band "The Jackson 5" more than 40 years ago, has lived as a virtual recluse since his acquittal in 2005 on charges of child molestation.

There have been concerns about Jackson's health in recent years but the promoters of the London shows, AEG Live, said in March that Jackson had passed a 4-1/2 hour physical examination with independent doctors

So many of us grew up on his music.. how will the world react when he's gone.. how will the world remember him.. and how will we allow them to remember him

I really believe that he will be remembered as a great entertainer that for some reason fell off the famous path and became more famous for being a pedophile. Its very unfortunate that everything he has done will be overshadowed for his indescrition's later on in his life.

on a side note. The most moving song he was a part of was "we are the world"

he was never a pedo in my books. I grew up with his music too and I hated a lot of his solo material, from his "Thriller" album onwards (to be honest I couldn't understand what all the fuss over him was about). But .... Strangely enough, I became a fan of his solo career with his "History" album which I loved. So you could say I only became a fanatic when most of his regular fans were deserting him (I'm slow like that). I liked the "History" album because there were a few songs on there were I actually felt like he was trying to make a passionate stand for his beliefs through his music and with such great production it came across loud and clear ...... I mean c'mon "The Earth Song" was magnificent ...... almost as soul searching as Marvins untouchable "Whats Going On". Otherwise, I can't fault his earlier days with the brothers Jackson a.k.a. the Jackson 5 ...... who can.

Anyway, here's a couple of my favorites, a minuscule slice of the man's massive legacy. Thank god for Michael Jackson, he truly was one of the worlds greatest entertainers and certainly rewrote the "how to become popstar numero uno" manual ...... can't imagine the 3 decades from 1970 without him ..... he definitely showed them the way to go.

Gamble & Huff produced - Show You The Way To Go

and of course, Earth Song

P.S. - I still think momowilly and dude(in his afro days, pre surgery) where separated at birth

LEt me show u .. that right there was a dope tune..
This was a nice combo for him.. gave him that philly ohio sound

Now when we talk solo albums ya gotta start at Off the Wall.. cause that's what kicked it off.. made it all make sense..
Thriller has so many jewels on it ... it's one of them joints u end up rediscovering every time u stumble across

Well I was VERY Blazeini and had few shots of whiskey, and a few brews, had the MJ playing loud, and I stepped out on my porch and feeling the music and it's raining hard and that thunder and lighting was going on and all I could do was think that. His best concert ever! I just pictured Michael Walking into whatever after/otherworld, pearly gates, heaven , paradise, etc.. and all the greats where there and as everyone was showing love, and he said well "I'm here, lets do this..." and just rocked it.

An interesting thought presented to me... would you compare MJ to Elvis just based on the effect they had on the respective generation?

If so, is it possible that MJ will be remembered in a positive light even after all the pediphile allegations, just like Elvis is with all his drug abuse and whoring around?
